Day 6 was the start of the trip back home. The plan was to follow US-11 all the way up to Pennsylvania. A lot of bugs had been killed along the way. The butterfly looked like a radiator badge from a little distance.
We didn't take a lot of pictures, but US-11 is mostly a nice back road drive that is a great Model A road. At one point there were a lot of logging trucks and a branch got caught under the car. When we pulled over to get the branch out a gentleman was there who said he takes care of two Model A's and that we should install Float-A-Motor mounts to lessen the vibration. The way he talked though you would have thought we just bought our first Model A instead having just driven one 1500 miles away from home. People are interesting....
As the temperature got hotter (high 80s), the fuel problems returned - we pulled over for a while between Meridian MS and Russell, MS. We noticed that the sediment bulb was filled with lots of moving bubbles as the gas boiled. The one picture shows a huge bubble that eventually formed. One gentlemen stopped to make sure we weren't stuck there and took pictures.
Later at the Kewanee Truck Stop in Toomsuba, MS, we drained as much of the gas as we could into the spare tank and filled up with 93 Octane Ethanol-free gas and added a little two-cycle oil. It was much better, especially after a long cool-down. While we were there parked off to the side in a shady spot with the hood up and the gas draining a car pulled up behind. I assumed they were going to ask if we needed help, but then the girl got out of the passenger seat and started with, "I'm getting married and we are looking for a different old car like that for my wedding..." We explained that we are from NJ and she'd have to go there if it was going to work out. She said she had friends in NJ and then left. They never did ask if we needed help - oh well.
The combination of the change in gas and cooler temperatures helped the car to run a lot better and by closer to sunset it was running normally.
