A short version of the history as given by a former owner:
  • The truck was found in the late 1980s in a barn in Springfield Massachusetts near the B&M railroad tracks, close to where the Basketball Hall of Fame is now located.
  • It was somewhat of a basket case cosmetically, but did have the original wood bed.  From amechanical standpoint, the truck appeared to be used little - the motor had very little wear and did not need to be bored out when rebuilt.
  • It was bought from a guy named Jay who worked for the railroad.  He had an old B&W newspaper photo of the truck which showed the two tone paint and wood bed.  The newspaper photo is believed to have been lost in a basement flood after the restoration.
  • The mechanical work, including the motor, was redone in the early 1990s by Pioneer Valley Model A (Warren Paul).  During this time Pioneer Valley Model A was closing down and as a result, the truck received quite a few NOS parts in the restoration.
  • The bed was built by Hampshire Restoration in Holyoke, Massachusetts using southern yellow pine and a bit more metal than the original because of Massachusetts regulations.
  • In 2004, the truck received a body-off restoration and painting.
  • The engine number is from April 1931 and is supposed to match the frame, but it is a Ford replacement "diamond" block.
